Q: What are chelated minerals?
A: Chelated minerals are bound to an amino acid or protein molecule, making them more bioavailable than minerals in the sulfate, carbonate or oxide form. Improved bioavailability improves antler and body growth. Chelated minerals also help to overcome mineral interactions that limit absorption of critical nutrients such as water with high iron or sulfate content.
Q: What do Direct-fed Microbials do for deer and elk?
A: Direct-fed Microbials (also called DFMs) are beneficial bacillus organisms which improve nutrient availability and absorption.
Q: Why are vitamins A, D, & E included?
A: These vitamins provide insurance for top performance and healthy animals
Q: My animals drink water, why would I need a hydration product?
A: When the weather is hot, appetite can be suppressed and animals can easily become dehydrated or ill. During hot weather, encourage animals to stay on feed by adding Hydro-Lac for Deer & Elk or Deer & Elk BlueLite to water. Both products are highly palatable and will encourage the animals to maintain adequate hydration and feed intake. By keeping animals on feed, you can encourage maximum antler growth even during the hot summer months. The hydration products we offer are patented, proven products that have been on the market for decades.
Q: What is heat stress and how does it impact deer and elk?
A: Deer and elk experience stress when the heat and humidity are high. The combination of heat and humidity impact the animal’s interest in eating and drinking, which causes poor performance, body growth, and antler growth. Especially during times of heat and humidity, it is important to make sure that deer and elk are getting adequate water and food. To improve food and water intake, we recommend using Deer & Elk BlueLite or Hydro-Lac for Deer and Elk.
The chart below illustrates the danger zones for dehydration – areas shown in yellow, orange and red show dangerous zones of combined temperature and humidity. Avoid complications related to dehydration by using Deer & Elk BlueLite or Hydro-Lac for Deer and Elk.
Q: There are other hydration products on the market, but they are salt based. How does a salt-based hydration product compare to the ones you offer?
A: Hydro-Lac for Deer & Elk and Deer & Elk BlueLite are both sugar-based hydration products instead of the more commonly found salt-based. In years of research, we’ve found that the key to keeping animals well-hydrated is to make sure that they are getting both in moderation and that the electrolytes are highly palatable. Hydro-Lac for Deer & Elk and Deer & Elk BlueLite are sweet and palatable, and contain the electrolytes needed to help replenish lost salts and provide energy to effectively metabolize nutrients and recover. >>

Q: Other than during hot weather, are there any other times when hydration products are important?
A: Yes, anytime there is a stress event, hydration products should be added to reduce the chance that the animals will go off-feed or become dehydrated. Examples of common stress events are shipping, during extreme weather conditions (hot or cold), when cutting antlers, or sorting.
Q: What’s the difference between your pellet and the others I’ve found on the market?
A: It only takes rolling one of the pellets between your fingers to feel one very tangible difference. Many competitive products include a wide variety of fillers that don’t add any nutrition and will easily fall apart when rolled between your fingers. The pellets produced at Form-A-Feed stay together – that’s because we use quality ingredients for maximum nutrition.
Q: Why do you offer both a pellet and a texturized version of the same products?
A: A pelleted product will stay fresher longer, but a texturized feed is more palatable because of molasses and physical form. We are also able to use more fat, which provides energy and calories, in the texturized formulas. We believe that by offering both options, you can make the choice that is the best fit for your farm.
Q: Do I need to purchase the Mineral Pellet or Concentrate to add to other Niess brand products?
A: No, the ingredients found in the Niess brand products are also found in the Mineral Pellet and Concentrate. However, you may want to purchase the Mineral Pellet or Concentrate to mix with whatever you are currently feeding at your farm. It’s a great way to boost nutrients as you need it.
